A New Orleans take on Christmas

When My Heart Finds Christmas
When My Heart Finds Christmas
By Harry Connick Jr.

Columbia Records: 1993

This review first appeared in the November 30, 1993 issue of the North County Blade-Citizen (now North County Times).

When an artist is asked to record a Christmas album, it's usually a sign they've arrived in the big time. Harry Connick Jr. got to the big time long ago, but his New Orleans-based musical sensibility is a welcome addition to the holiday musical offerings.

Connick not only covers old favorites like "Rudolph," "O Holy Night" and "The Little Drummer Boy" with verve and swing, but contributes several new seasonal songs, such as "When My Heart Finds Christmas," "The Blessed Dawn of Christmas Day" and "I Pray on Christmas" that keep the album from getting stale.
