Raccoon Stories Ken had never set out to be a cartoonist, but the raccoons were, well, different. They were rude, drunken, politically incorrect little vermin. Kind of like Ken or most of us on the Aztec staff, actually. So he continued the strip on a haphazard basis, turning in a strip whenever he felt like it – eventually becoming part of our regular rotation of student-created comic strips.

Soon, the Raccoons hit the road – for Vegas, of course.

The raccoons in Vegas

In an aside, a couple years into the Raccoons' short-lived reign of terror, the Aztec ran a travel article on Las Vegas by Jamie Reno (now with Newsweek and People – I think I'm the only one from that crew who hasn't gone on to better things ...) and the editors asked Ken to illustrate – so the two hell-raising varmints made a return trip (below).

After the Vegas misadventures, the Raccoons again hit the road, touring the Southwest.
