A debut with promise

Alexis Allan
Alexis Allan
By Alexis Allan

Self-released: 2009

This review first appeared in the February 26, 2009 issue of the North County Times.

AA junior at El Camino High in Oceanside, 16-year-old singer Alexis Allan is issuing her debut EP, produced by local singer-songwriter Joanie Mendenhall. The five-song collection displays a singer with a confidence and the delivery of a far more experienced musician.

Allan wrote all five tracks here, and they're all nice little pop songs. Recorded with a quartet, the songs are introspective, folk-oriented tunes in a singer-songwriter vein.

Allan's voice is deep and rich, and if she doesn't exhibit the greatest range, she's very expressive in her singing. Combine that with the polish of the songs, and this is a debut that holds tremendous promise for the future.
