A nice mix
Longtime San Diego fixture Kevyn Lettau returns with her fourth release on JVC Records. Like its predecessor, "Simple Life," the new release is a blend of accessible jazz and Brazilian influences (with some of the lyrics sung in Portuguese). It's a nice mix of tunes here, ranging from James Taylor's "Shower the People" and a cover of Jobim and seven tunes co-written by Lettau herself. She shows a nice flair for penning fetching little melodies, and her smooth alto voice lends itself well to the silky, sophisticated arrangements. And fans of San Diego guitarist Peter Sprague, in whose band Lettau sent many years as vocalist, will delight in finding his tasteful playing here as well. |
