This review first appeared in the Sept. 3, 1993 issue of the North County Blade-Citizen (now North County Times).

This tribute to Louis Armstrong by young jazz lion Tiger Okoshi ins't a bad album. It just doesn't capture much of the sound or spirit of New Orleans that so marked Armstrong's music. That's not surprising given that neither Okoshi nor his backing musicians are particularly of the New Orleans school of jazz.

Okoshi can flat-out play; he can soar into the upper register every bit as good as Satchmo ever could. And Okoshi has his own sound, his own brand of soul that marks his performances as unique.

But as a tribute to Armstrong, this misses the mark.
